2014 Pinot Noir / Sonoma Coast
We entered 2014 with drought on our minds, but substantial rains in February soon tabled that concern. Moderate temperatures during the growing season reduced the potential for sunburn and raisining, while increasing the fruit’s concentration and complexity. We saw great uniformity of berries at harvest. Even heat at the end of August and first part of September helped finish maturity…lots of fruit came in at same time. This was another earlier than average vintage.
Aromas of strawberry-rhubarb pie, ripe black cherry and pomegranate greet you, followed by a balance of brown spice, tea leaf and Asian pear on the palate. This lighter style Pinot Noir finishes with soft approachable tannins that carry the fruit into a savory finish.
