2013 Zinfandel / Old Vine / Russian River Valley
2013 shaped up to be a solid growing season, boasting even temperatures that showed no significant highs or lows. We did not see much rain after December. Though there were brief early-vintage sprinkles, the winds that followed dried the vineyards quickly, preventing any rot or mildew. The moderate temperatures during harvest also allowed us to make pinpoint decisions on harvest dates enabling us to hone in on specific flavors and grape maturity. This was an earlier than average growing season, from start to finish.
From our winemaker’s own private vineyard, our 2013 Old Vine Zinfandel from Russian River Valley shows notes of dehydrated strawberry and juicy cranberry on the nose. With structured tannins on the palate, juicy fruit-driven flavors of boysenberry and blackberry lead into a hint of clove spice on the finish.
